Steven Spielberg's War Of The Worlds based off the 1898 novel by H.G. Wells joins Star Wars Episode III as this Summers "Anti-Bush" themed movies. No I have not seen the movie personally yet but read a diary over at DailyKos by AnthonySF who spills the goods. Apparently there are a few references at the begin of the alien invasion which Tom Cruise says, “Is it the terrorists?” Also there is a breakdown in civilization where the gun toting nuts now rule. Some 9/11 references as well such as bulletin boards with pictures of the missing and people running chaotically for their lives. Probably the biggest hint is the dialog between Tom Cruise's ex-wife and Tim Robbins characters:
Tom Cruise's ex-wife briefly mentions a report on "the French invasion of Algeria"; Tim Robbins' character declares, "Occupations never work. History has shown us that."
A really good line from AnthonySF’s review:
And unlike the President's recent press conference, Spielberg manages to slip in many appropriate 9/11 references.
Silly? Yes, but I am sure you may be hearing more about this soon as the right likes to do the whole fake outrage thing about Hollywood.
