Going against the White House, 90 senators supported a and amendment in the appropriations bill which set new limits on interrogating detainees in Iraq and elsewhere. The amendment was added to a $440 billion military spending bill for the budget year that began Oct. 1. The proposal, sponsored by Sen. John McCain, also requires all service members to follow procedures in the Army Field Manual when they detain and interrogate terrorism suspects. McCain was POW himself who withstood years of torture in Vietnam.
However, 9 Republican Senators, voted "AGAINST THE WAR", "DO NOT SUPPORT THE TROOPS", and voted IN FAVOR OF TORTURE.
