Heroism: 18 Year Old Saves Lives By Borrowing Unused School Bus

Posted by Frankie at 9/02/2005 03:43:00 PM

So shines a good deed in a weary world

An eighteen year old hero to many, Jabbar Gibson packed a school bus from Orleans Parish with complete strangers and drove it over seven hours to safety in Houston, TX. This was an unexpected arrival at the Astrodome and was not initially welcome; however, it did not take long to understand the peoples "extreme act of desperation." Gibson had never driven a bus before in his life. The evacuees were placed on other buses and transferred to shelters in Texas. One passenger on the bus praised 18 year old Gibson,

"If it wasn't for him, we would still be in New Orleans under water."
Gibson knew that his nobel deed was well worth it,
"I don't care if I get blamed for it, as long as I could save my people."

I might be done posting for a while after this one... and watching that video, this is just too depressing, this is not my America...

I hadn't heard this story. That is awesome! Good for him. I hope some others follow his lead and get more people out.
