Tuesday, October 11, 2005Pro-Choice Laura Bush Supports Meirs PubliclyPosted by Frankie at 10/11/2005 08:48:00 PM
The First Lady Laura Bush came out today on NBC's Today Show with an overwhelming public support of the nomination of Harriet Meirs who she stated, "I know Harriet well." Laura Bush defended her husbands pick of Meirs who POTUS Bush claimed he did not discuss her views on abortion with. Laura Bush today called her a, "role model for young women around the country."
This is important because it is publicly known that Laura Bush is pro-choice, along with most women that are closest to Bush. Back in 2001, then First Lady-elect told NBC's Today Show about her personal views on abortion. "No, I don't think it should be overturned," Mrs. Bush told NBC's "Today Show" when asked about the high court's decision, Roe vs. Wade.Laura Bush went on today in the defense of her husbands pick and her public support of Meirs. "I know Harriet well," the first lady said. "I know how accomplished she is. I know how many times she's broken the glass ceiling. . . . She's very deliberate and thoughtful and will bring dignity to wherever she goes, certainly the Supreme Court."Even Bush's own mother, Barbara Bush is pro-choice. "I hate abortions, but just could not make that choice for someone else."So we can now see why the right wing wackos are so upset with Bush's decision on Meirs. One can see why this women who is known to keep all of her political and philosophical opinions private within a right wing Republican administration. Not to mention that the right hates this woman for being just that, a woman. Today's continuing attack from the right on Meirs will surly continue. Not much is really known about her self kept private views; however, what is known is that she contributed to Al Gore in 88', her law firm in which she is a partner of (and Bush boasts about so much) contributed to Hillary Clinton in 2000. Also, Meirs with publicly for equal civil rights for gays when she ran and elected for Dallas, TX city council in 1989, her only publicly held office. These people are apposed to Meirs as all of the public evidence points to that she is a pro-choice "evangelical" female moderate, and not an anti-choice "fundamentalist" male.
