Poverty increases four years strait to 12.7%, 800,000 more don't have health insurance, income DECLINED by 2.6% in the Midwest, but unemployment is only 5%... right.
"I don't know whether it's the way they measure or some other factors," Gabriel said, a Republican. "The political dimension to that would be whether that's a function of the safety net having eroded in the 10 years in which the Republicans have had control of the Congress."

I do not like the way they put the Social Security money in the general fund, either! I'll bet you anything (almost, lol) this is the reason why it is so difficult to reform it. It would take away their cash cow!
When it comes to OUR money, I'm pretty libertarian.
BTW, I believe the gov't should get out of the medical business. Many doctors will explain to you just how many hours they spend (their secretaries or nurses) on nothing but forms. Duplicate, triplicate, etc.
If they did not have this expense, maybe they would lower their rates? In 1977, I had a doctor come to my home, because I could not move. I did not have insurance. I was 17 pretending to be 22. I didn't want to pay for it. (That's another issue by itself!) The cost? $10.
The emergency room used to cost $35. How did it get so out of hand? Sen. Ted Kennedy came up with the HMO's that he is now deriding in the 1960's. He meant well, but we all know where that leads...lol.
Thanks for stopping over. I appreciate what you had to say. I left a comment for you. Have a great day!
I know, everyone joked about Gore and the lock box, but it’s not too funny now. I was 20/21 at the time and not really that observant and it really wasn’t a big issue. Now I see the Republican plan to bankrupt SS so it will be eventually removed, the “lock box” is not funny anymore.
I would argue you need gov in healthcare. We spend more on a person than anyone in the world and it’s anything but world-class in this profit system.
Yes, HMOs are evil to many, but where would we be without them. They are better than nothing. We are moving to a society where insurance not even close to being a given. In a state where Wal-Mart is the #1 employer who has 40:60% PT:FT workers, it’s the tax payers who end up with the bill because the corporations don’t want to pay to protect those all important profit margins. That is the main duty of any corporations, its not customer satisfaction… ect, it’s stock holder satisfaction.
I am by no means some big socialist. I do or believe what is best for our country, and myself second. Many people think that is wrong. I believe that I have had a fortunate and fairly privileged life so far, and to bitch and complain about my own personal finances other situations is ridiculous compared to how many others are struggling.
A society is as only good as the weakest among them.
You have a great day to, I am going for a run.
