Bush White House Staff Hypocrisy Conduct Flashback

Posted by Frankie at 7/15/2005 11:58:00 PM

Talk about a foremost flip-flop in White House cabinet “conduct.” Thanks to Jeff Seemann For Congress at Daily Kos for digging up this beauty. Back in 2001 Right-Wing Republican “publication” NewsMax, wrote an all-so-proper piece on the new Bush administration and their “highest ethical standards.”

WASHINGTON (UPI) - President Bush witnessed the swearing-in of his White House staff Monday and said he expected them to avoid even the appearance of impropriety and to conduct themselves with humility and civility at all times.

[...]

Bush warned that he expected his White House staff to meet the highest ethical standards, avoiding not only violations of law, but even the appearance of impropriety.

"We must remember the high standards that come with high office," he said. "This begins careful adherence with the rules. I expect every member of this administration to stay well within the boundaries [that] define legal and ethical conduct.

OK, as soon as you're done laughing, please read on.

Let's look closely at the words "even the appearance of impropriety", shall we?

We KNOW FOR A FACT, despite all the spin that they throw at us, the following.

  • A CIA agent was outed.
  • A senior White House aide, through his OWN LAWYER, has admitted discussing the agent's identity to several reporters.
  • That aide never disclosed the blown cover with the CIA.
  • That aide has since lied several times in public and private about knowing any detail of the incident.
  • That aide has since been promoted to Deputy Chief Of Staff.

Chalk it up as YET ANOTHER INSTANCE that Bush cannot and will not be a man of his word.

"I expect every member of this administration to stay well within the boundaries [that] define legal and ethical conduct."
- George W. Bush

Well within the boundaries, George? Really?
