Wednesday, August 24, 2005What Would Jesus Do? Lie and Kidnap According To Pat RoberstonPosted by Frankie at 8/24/2005 02:27:00 PM
Republican and now terrorist "Christian" fundamentalist Pat Robertson has now lied about his August 22nd statements where he suggested that the United States "assassinate" Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Robertson even cited the Monroe Doctrine which was used during the cold war by the United States to justify the "Contras" of the 80's. These death squads were used to overthrow DEMOCRACIES, much like that of Venezuela in which democratically elected leaders were ASSASSINATED, and caused the deaths of an estimated 70,000 civilians in the process.
Here is Roberston's original assassination statement, words in RED are emphasized as they specifically and ONLY refer to assassination of Chavez via his reference to the Monroe Doctrine or the act of assassination itself: You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with. Here is his lie from today about Christian "kidnapping": ROBERTSON: Wait a minute, I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should, quote, "take him out," and "take him out" can be a number of things including kidnapping. There are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted by the AP, but that happens all the time.Roberston also lied by again calling democratically elected Chavez a "dictator." Media Matters has the video of the terrorist fundamentalist Pat Robertson. I find it funny how it took Republican terrorist Pat Robertson a whole 48 hours to correct this simple "misinterpret[ation]". I guess that's how long it took him to think of a way to spin out of this one... Christ.
