Dick Cheney 91' Invading Iraq: "Classic Definition Of A Quagmire"

Posted by Frankie at 8/30/2005 08:28:00 PM

Republican Dick Cheney, then Secretary of Defense under POTUS Bush 41 in 1991 had a total 180 degree view on the invasion and occupation of Iraq. It just stuck him as a "classic definition of a quagmire" to have our militarily "take control" while the people "stugled" over who would govern. The transscript:
The notion that we aught to now go into Baghdad and ah... and somehow take control of the country strikes me as an extremely serious one. In terms of ah, what we would have to do once we got there. You'd probably have to put some new government in place. It's not clear what kind of government that would be, how long you would have to stay. For the U.S. to get involved militarily in determining the outcome of the strugle of who's going to govern in Iraq, strikes me as a classic definition of a quagmire.
I kid you not, here is the actual audio for you to download:

Wow! He looks much better in that pic than he normally does. He actually has some color in his face.
