Monday, May 16, 2005Miltary AWOL crisis, Army offers 15 month enlistmentPosted by Frankie at 5/16/2005 01:12:00 PM
It seems that the US military is facing yet another crisis, thousands of troops are refusing to return to battle and "kill anybody." So who can blame a soldier when they were told that they would be helping fight for our freedom like this:
"We were told that we would be going to Iraq to jack up some terrorists. We were told it was a new kind of war, that these were evil people and they had to be dealt with ... We were told to consider all Arabs as potential terrorists ... to foster an attitude of hatred that gets your blood boiling."Latest reported figures show that there are over 5,000 troops missing from duty. http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=638635 So now the Army has a new sell for America, a 15 month enlistment. I wonder if the stop loss is in effect for these kids? One military expert commented: "Fifteen months, is often not enough time to learn complex tasks in a high-tech Army."That's great, so the stop loss may not even need to be considered. Why doesn't "Rev." Chan Chandler formerly from the East Waynesville Baptist Church get some of his young "brainwashed" congregates to sign up. I am sure they will still send their paychecks from their new employer back to Chandler, tax exempt of course.

Again a Catholic priest has denied communion to gays or anyone who supports their right to be accepted into the church...
A Roman Catholic priest denied Communion to more than 100 parishioners yesterday, saying they could not receive the sacrament because they wore rainbow-colored sashes to church to show support for gay Catholics.http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/44168.htm This contradicts what was suggested in a 1997 pastoral letter entitled “Always Our Children” written by US Catholic bishops. ... the fundamental human rights of homosexual persons must be defended and that all of us must strive to eliminate any form of injustice, oppression, or violence against them...Homosexual persons 'must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity.'

In a column last week in The Washington Times and in an appearance on Tucker Carlson's talk show on PBS, he repeated his belief that public broadcasting's reputation of being left-leaning was a problem. Mr. Tomlinson has been waging a campaign to correct what he and other conservatives see as a liberal bias in public television programming. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/16/business/media/16radio.html

Saw this first over at DU:
U.S. Senator Bill Frist got more than he bargained for when he stopped off to buy shoes in D-C. And we have the pictures to prove it. Frist was buying pricey shoes beneath the offices of Americans United to Protect Social Security, and as you can imagine, protestors were quick to pounce.http://www.wmcstations.com/Global/story.asp?S=3342839
